Family Law Litigation Paralegal- Hybrid Position

Berger Schatz, a large matrimonial and family law firm, is seeking a full time Paralegal for its Family Law Practice. The successful candidate will have experience handling a variety of tasks, including discovery and case management and some administrative tasks.  Hours for this position are 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, working hybrid in our Chicago office, once training is completed.

The Litigation Paralegal will assist in all aspects of document management and organization, discovery, financial analysis and trial preparation in various jurisdictions.  Day-to-day tasks involve the regular management of large document productions (both as the recipient and the provider), working with clients on providing discovery and completing financial disclosures, analysis and summary of records for attorney review, and preparation of exhibits and materials for trials/hearings/depositions. 

This is a fast paced environment with daily deadlines and emergency tasks and requires strong communication skills (verbal and written) with in house attorneys, clients, and outside resources.  A strong team member will be able to perform tasks independently, follow up to ensure the meeting of deadlines, and also work in a collaborative team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years family law litigation experience or 3+ years litigation paralegal experience  
  • Strong computer skills (see technical skills below)
  • Familiarity with Family Law Software is a plus
  • Paralegal certification preferred, but will also consider individual experience

Essential Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Financial Affidavits and balance sheets
  • Issue and respond to discovery requests and 201(k) letters
  • Draft subpoenas with riders and execute to ensure compliance
  • Review, index, analyze and summarize financial and discovery records
  • Financial analysis, including dissipation, tracing
  • Prepare paper and electronic exhibits and exhibit lists for hearings, depositions, trials, and mediations
  • Maintain calendar for discovery-related deadlines
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys, experts, and others by telephone, in person and in writing
